Sang Juara: Champion's Mentality of Maia ?

After watching a basketball match between Satria Muda Britama and Garuda Flexi Bandung, Maia wrote a song Sang Juara (The Champion). She thought, "Why don’t we have an Indonesian song for championship?". So Maia wrote the song. Then The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sport Affairs agreed and accepted 'Sang Juara' to be used widely in Indonesian Championship events.

Maia also said that Sang Juara was written for all Indonesian citizens, not only for the athletes. The message in the song is, despite our troubles, we must go forward. “We must have the mentality of champions. Don’t be pessimistic or apathetic. As human beings, we should be strong. If there is a problem, don't whine, get back on our feet, show people that we are not a nation with a weak mentality. We are the champions," she said.

It is also her champion’s mentality that kept Maia sane during her divorce problem with Ahmad Dhani. Maia said that the marriage law protects the necessities of women as it gives custody to mothers. However, as the case is still being processed, Ahmad Dhani was given custody of the children now..

“Most House members are male; the public still don’t trust women to be representatives and leaders. Under the marriage law, men still become the leader, but women should not see themselves as number two. Men should be good leaders and behave. If the men behave badly, why should the women follow them? Men and women are equal. Why should women be treated differently?”

NOFX : Coaster Album Review

NOFX is back with their 12-th album, Coaster. 12 mature tracks which sound ‘bold’, ‘neat’ and strong.
Working, drinking and shouting in punk music ground for more than 20 years, sure they know what they did. All songs in Coaster are deserved to get worldwide attention and rate.

NOFX is talking about drugs, religion and politic in this album. ‘I am an Alcoholic’ is a perfect blend of ska-punk and swing-jazz… flavored with sweet 90’s backing vocal by Karina Denike. (She was the vocalist for Dance Hall Crashers, who released some ska-based songs in the late 90's). ‘Blasphemy’ and ‘Best God in Show’ talks about Christianity in Fat Mike’s point of view.

‘One Million Coasters’ is the last song with a genius fade-out ending... That song is also a great ending for the entire album. It’s hanging, giving a feeling of going to somewhere; I don’t know… the next album perhaps.

This album is good if we judge it by popular songwriting skill perspective. The compositions are good in repetition, structure and dynamism. They’re drunk and unconscious but they still play music awesome and know exactly how punk-things should be done. I bet all the melodic and skate-punk kids out there will stop playing to listen to the veteran’s words in this album. Let’s say, NOFX album places one million coasters under the punk scene glasses, so we won’t spoil anything spilled from our glasses while we drunk.

Superman is Dead (SID) is going to performed at Kevin Says Stage on Vans Warped Tour. Although the stage isn't the main stage at Vans Warped Tour, but still... this is a great news for Indonesian music scene. As we know, for the last few years Kevin Says Stage has featured mostly-unsigned line-up artists... But this year, the stage will promote new bands which have just signed with labels (from many recording companies around the world). Superman is Dead was picked as one of the newcomers bands. So, in this June, these Balinese punk-rockers will perform in USA.

Easy Chords is a free Winamp plugin. It's a chords generator for musician. If you like to play guitar, keyboard or other music instruments, then you'll love this freeware. Easy chords recognizes chord automatically. It shows chords and guitar tabs for every song played inside Winamp. You don't have to search the Net for chords and tabs anymore.

All Winamp skins are supported. But there's one weakness: we have to wait for a moment, giving Easy-Chords time to analyze the 'now-playing' song. But I believe it's not a big deal because once a song is analyzed, you don't have to wait for the chord analyzing process next time you play the song.

Indonesian Youngster's being attacked by I-Phone 3G syndrome!

Some say that iPhone is an iPod with a phone function.. It redefines what an iPod can do. I don't know is this a good news or not, Apple have launched the long awaited iPhone 3G in Indonesia on March. It's already hits stores. The price is about IDR 10 million. On the retail markets, there are plan options which offer the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G models with various postpaid plans, starting from IDR 300,000 (or roughly US$ 26-28 per month).

This 'music-phone' is invading our market, as Blackberry did few months ago. Telkomsel, the sole operator in Indonesia, will team-up with four big distributors, to sell the iPhone 3G. Telkomsel also offers various local iPhone apps such as : Aphrodite (world sport schedule), Jakarta Globe (daily English news), Detik.com (news), Angklung (music), SCTV (national TV), Kapanlagi.com (lifestyle and entertaiment site), and Kompas (daily Indonesian news). This free application can be downloaded for a limited time from the Apple App store.

'Kunobatkan Jadi Fantasi EP' is shared for free by The Upstairs. There are six songs in this EP, but only one track which is new. As we know, Televisi and Alexander Graham Bell had been released before in JKT:SKRG compilation (Aksara Records).
Although there's only one new song, it's a 'must-have' collection for Modern Darlings (The Upstairs fans). Live version of Terekam (Tak Pernah Mati) includes Jimi Multhazam’s spontaneous and stupid words. I'm sure The Upstairs Loyal fans would love things like this.

The new one, which is titled 'Ku Nobatkan Jadi Fantasi' is a electro-punk song which is heavily flavored with energic drum, roaring organ, and lyric repetition. There's a big energy in this song. I can feel its strong and bold impression, although I can't understand nor explain the lyric yet..

It seems like The Upstairs wants to make tactical-promotion by releasing the mp3's for free. They spread the mp3's widely with help from Yesnowave netlabel (new online label from Jogjakarta). They share the songs under Creative Common Attributes. They want you to download these mp3's legally.

Welcome to the online version of '75 cm Indonesian music magazine'. Sure you know that for years we have struggled, published and produced the Indonesian music zine on paper format. Now, as internet and digital technology are well developed in Indonesia, we'd like to transfer our magazine into a digital format (ezine).

Frankly said, internet is a 'magic solution' which will help us to survive. We still wants to be around in Indonesian music scene. We love discussing and talking 'bout music, interviewing some artists and bands at backstage, reviewing new released albums, and spread the news.
